."We feel that our cause is just and holy; we protest solemnly in the face of mankind that we desire peace at any sacrifice save that of honor and independence; we ask no conquest, no aggrandizement, no concession of any kind from the States with which we were lately confederated; all we ask is to be let alone; that those who never held power over us shall not now attempt our subjugation by arms." --- President Jefferson Davis - 29 April 1861
"What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?" {James 2:14}

When I consider the Word of the Living God, the Holy Scriptures, I am awed by its majesty and its truth. Throughout the ages the most intellectual heathen minds have attempted to disprove the words written therein, and thereby discrediting the faithful. These are they who would denigrate the Holy Scripture to the level of a mindless collection of legends and fairy tales, believed by the weak, unenlightened and the ignorant.
Endless hours, days and years have been spent digging in the earth, for that single miniscule piece of evident, which would disprove, if possible, a small portion of the Holy Writ. These efforts have proven completely unfruitful! Quite the contrary to their purpose, they have brought provided evidence that verifies the divine origins of the very word, they would discredit.
The overriding doctrine of the Christian testimony is not whether every single member of Adam's race will bow before the Lord Jesus Christ, but when. Shall we bow in grace or under His wrath and judgment? "For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." (Romans 14:11-12).
The Holy Scripture is more then a book, it is an encyclopedia inspired at the very throne room of Heaven's grace. The Holy Scriptures collectively constitutes a book of instruction whereby mankind can return to full fellowship with Almighty God, in Christ Jesus our Savior and Lord. The Holy Scripture is indeed a book of God, but also more then this, He comes to us, within its pages.
"Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me." (Psalms 40:7). Man's quest for knowledge is in vain, least he have the knowledge of the Almighty God, and humbles himself, seeking His forgiveness, and doing so with a contrite heart. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction." (Proverbs 1:7). Thus the sum total of man's accumulated knowledge is but foolishness, without the fear of the Lord, and a wasted vainglory.
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect thoroughly furnished unto all good works." (II Timothy 3:16). This verse means that should you completely believe in the inerrancy and divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, you won't spend an entire lifetime walking through dark corridors in a meaningless pursuit of the truth.
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33). If we as Confederates and Southerners, being a separate and distinct people, wish to be found worthy of the divine grace and providence, of Almighty God, we of necessity must heed the words of the Holy Scripture. Then we shall see the vindication of our just and honorable cause!
