Commanding Presence

This article is an update from the late 1990's when it was originally written!

What if a dynamic, charismatic leader with commanding presence were to appear?

Should we obtain the quality of leadership discussed on this page, he will necessarily be a man of unusual qualities and an intellect to be sure.  Such leadership in our modern times will require a quick and agile mind able to outwit his opponents on the political cultural battlefield, even more so then our forefathers achieved on the literal battlefield.  A leader of this caliber will inevitably overturn the power elite and the kingmakers.  The liberal mass media will be unable to bend and mold him to their story line and they will find themselves becoming an unwilling advocate in his behalf.  However this particular leader will come out of obscurity, then afterward he will return back into obscurity, once his mission has been achieved.  He will no doubt by the nature of his mission, become the most loved as well as the most hated man of his time.

.
Our modern Confederate Movement has an urgent need for a leadership of the type, which will unite the cause into an effective political cultural force while at the same time appealing to the masses of ‘We the People’ whereby they will join our numbers.  There was a brief period of time when it was actually believed sufficient collective leadership had indeed arisen, which would fill that void.  However it has since been made clear this leadership is divided, lacking a true unity of mission or purpose, and does not have the drive to reach out to the masses.  Thus the movement remains closed into an inter-circle of vying organizations and groups, which seems to be adrift in a sea of procrastination, compromise and complacency.   Therefore the urgency discussed in this article is herein has reached a critical phase, and while many will no doubt disagree, yet the argument here is made for the sake of future generations yet unborn.

.

There are some people who because of their unique charisma and natural abilities must be considered irreplaceable!   Among those men who come to mind are Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. 'Stonewall' Jackson.    These were unique men having commanding presence, charisma and a brilliant tactical genius.  Imagine if you will how the outcome of the late War for Confederate Independence might have been altered, if all of our Confederate Armies had been for example commanded by the likes of Stonewall Jackson.   What did he possess, that made him so different then other men?   Simply that he inspired his men and brought home victory after victory.
.
Had such men commanded all of our Confederate Armies from in 1861 onward, we would have no doubt rolled back the Union Armies?   We would have marched into Washington DC in triumph and dictated terms to Abraham Lincoln himself.   Since all of Lincoln's famous generals would have either been in prison or dead!   Our other leaders were great men also of that no one should doubt, but we are talking here about uniqueness!  How important is such a 'unique leader' to a cause or of any movement?   You name any cause or movement on earth and the principles of leadership remain the same.   When such leaders are present victory becomes all but certain and made so by the presence of a precious few unique individuals.   A single man such as this, who has the gift of commanding presence as well as principle, tactics and commitment, can and often does alter the course of history.
.
Few would doubt the likelihood that the Colonial Revolution might have been lost had George Washington, early in his life been granted a commission in the British Navy, which had been his boyhood dream.   Thus he would have been unavailable to command the Colonial Armies!   Only a scarce few men have ever possessed such an abundance of commanding presence, charisma and natural abilities, as did George Washington.  The issue is not whether or not our present leadership is good and honorable men; I would argue they are indeed very much so.  However the present Confederate movement after more then a decade and a half, might well have progressed to the point of dominating the political arena, given the quality of leaders such a those being discussed here.
.

The pendulum of power will indeed shift in our favor, all in due course of time, and we will find ourselves in a position of being able to 'dictate terms' once we acquire such leadership.   These terms will be carried out under lawfully, peacefully, honorably conditions in a diplomatically manner, and with all the Southern courtesies of course, but nonetheless we will dictate terms.  We must in all good conscience ask of ourselves, why have we not collectively grown into a strong and dominant political power block much earlier?   Why do we find ourselves begging and grubbing merely for a few meager numbers for one project or the other?   We muster a few hundred souls at a gathering and we feel we have done some type of marvelous thing, while our occupation forces can muster gigantic crowds even at small town sporting events.
.
We are like unto an army with an abundance of local commanders, while at the same time having no Commander in Chief and no General Staff!   We lack the one irreplaceable figure whose commanding presence will cause everyone to stand in awe when he enters a room.  Such an individual is not now leading our political cultural armies!   While we are arising from the flames and ashes of war and occupation, we must have a leader behind whom the masses will rally.  This leader must fill the shoes and be the type of Commander in Chief for whom the massed would happily give their last full measure of devotion, in support of our just and honorable cause, should such a sacrifice be necessary.   We have the example of our forefathers who followed the leadership of men like unto General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, who himself having never defeated as a Confederate Commander.
.

Even more important, such a leader must be humble in spirit, having a depth of character and faith, which makes him worthy of their devotion.  It has been mentioned aforetime and is repeated here, give us such man and we will roll back the surrender of our glorious Confederate Armies.  Give us such a man and we will reverse the surrender at Appomattox Courthouse.   Give us one such man and we will reseat the Confederate States Government via special elections, then we will march into Richmond in triumph and Victory.   And most certainly not with only a few hundred meager souls or a few thousand, but with standing room only crowds and a parade of political might, the likes of which has never been witnessed in many generations of our people.
.

That ladies and gentlemen, believers in the Confederate Cause, is the way it is!   Until we see such a man step out from the crowd and take command of this entire movement, we will be fighting an enemy equipped with heavy artillery, rapid fire and high tech weapons, while we return fire with the political equivalent of toy guns.  Many will say that such a man is not necessary and to such ‘doom and gloomers’ I vehemently disagree.   This is witness by history itself that no movement has ever arisen to power without dynamic, charismatic leaders having commanding presence.  After the victory a people then has the opportunity to nation settle into routine process and rebuild its government and society.  But in order to arrive at that particular point in time, there must be a national leadership of the caliber, which has been discussed here.
.

The description of such a leader is well known, but let us review his prerequisites for the sake of those who may not comprehend the type of leader of which we speak.  He would be humble and a God fearing man having no desire whatsoever to walk in the halls of power.  While at the same time this man will be a dynamic personality with a strong sense of character, and an abundance of charisma and commanding presence.  He will be a Confederate States patriot and nationalist believing firmly in all those things Confederate and Southern, including our history, heritage, culture as well as our nationhood.  Such a man will possess the ability to attract massive crowds and hold the undivided attention of the mass media as well as the general population.  This is naturally a simplified explanation but it should give an idea as to the uniqueness of the individual of whom we are describing.
.

A substitute in this case will not suffice!   It is a certainty, such a man is already out there among the people and allow me to address myself this particular man should he by chance read this article.  "You must become cognizant of the destination which lay before you regarding the leadership of such a great people. You are out there among the citizenry going about your daily life having likely been raised into manhood and living in one of our Southern cities, towns or villages.  There is no doubt you are very much aware of our people's critical need for national leadership and realize that you yourself possess all the prerequisites discussed in this article.   Perhaps you are holding back out of a sense of humility not wanting to dominate the spotlight or press yourself upon the people.  Like General Jackson prior to the war, you are happy in your own life and content with your station in life.
.

None-the-less you have the commanding presence necessary to lead this so great a people and having these gifts carries with it a higher responsibility.  You know as well as anyone that if you step out of the crowd onto the world stage, you will be leaving behind the obscurity of your present condition and the masses will enthusiastically follow.   We are not speaking of lifting anyone up higher then they aught be, rather simply that you accept the duty and responsibility according to the talents and abilities given by the 'Grace and Divine Providence of Almighty God.'   You are a man possessing the natural ability to lead our people, to the very doorstep of liberation, independence and the restoring of our nation.
.

It should be quite understandable, that such a man, would have no desire whatsoever to walk in the halls of power, or receive the accolades of the crowd, therefore you have hesitated.  The stage however has been set and the necessary preparations made, the time is fulfilled and the hour is upon us!   The time to fulfill your life's mission is nigh at hand for you to alter the course of future history.   Let us be crystal clear about this matter, another person will not come!   The Divine Providence of Almighty God has placed in the hands of a single individual that he alone shall become the pivotal link and launch the movement onto the world stage."
It is as if time itself has now paused for a moment waiting for that certain individual to step before the world’s cameras and microphones.
.

Let that time be quickened!
Let this be a forewarning at the close of this article; we are not speaking of a Messiah figure, a dictator nor a theocracy but of a man born and raised among us in our own time, and granted certain gifts from Almighty God while still in his mother's womb, that he might lead this so great a people.  Anyone who adds or subtracts from the intention of the message given here is doing a great disservice both to us and to future generation yet unborn.

God save the Confederacy
