Proclamation of Independence
Welcome Onboard!
We are all familiar with the words of the Declaration of Independence which includes the phrase "We hold these truths to be self evident ..." Among these self evident truths we find our "Unalienable Rights", which by definition are rights which cannot be legislated, regulated or adjudicated away from us, nor can they be bought, sold or surrendered. These rights are endowed by the Almighty God, not upon organizations and governments, rather as an act of creation granted to each and every individual in every age and in every time zone.
It is of critical importance for those who become Confederate Legionnaires to clearly understand the principles upon which we stand. These principles are the key to our mission and purpose and have never been better stated then in the Proclamation of Independence. It is in carrying out the words of the Proclamation of Independence that our just and honorable cause shall be vindicated. The Confederate Legion will carryout its mission using only lawful, peaceful and honorable means!
"Victory is for those with the persistence and fortitude to resist the temptation to withdraw or whose resolve has been tempered, when conditions worsen and the cost rises. It is not for the weak hearted, nor those who are softened by the ease and comfort of a gilded cage, provided by the enemy at the cost of liberty. It is for those who continue to fight the good fight, even after others who have gone before, having faced overwhelming numbers and firepower found themselves unable to complete the mission." --- Jay Buckner
The 13 Southern States as well as their western territories exercised their own "Unalienable Rights" in seceding from the "Union of States" and creating a new nation, the Confederate States of America. Such a nation once created cannot nor was not been dissolved as a result of having been unlawfully and unconstitutionally invaded, conquered and occupied. These States were forced to rescind their individual Articles of Secession at the point of a bayonet, then returned to the "Union of States" by act of force. Therefore these acts stand as invalid, just as a testimony in a "Court of Law" would be voided if given under similar circumstances. These again are self evident truths!
The Confederate States of America remains unto this day an occupied but separate and distinct nation and people. Our "Unalienable Rights" have accordingly been suppressed by those acts of force which were carried out during and after the late War for Confederate Independence, commonly known as the "Civil War." When the rights of any State to peacefully secede are trampled under the iron heal of an oppressor, so in like manner are the rights of all of the States and ultimately the people themselves. It should be obvious to anyone with a comprehension of the truth, that if the exercise of these rights is to be regained, it will require the massive and collective action of "We the People" as well as a coalition of like minded States.
The likelihood that any State would be permitted to leave the Union single handedly is extremely remote, if not impossible. The Confederate Legion has been created with the mission and purpose of gaining sufficient popular support whereby the Confederate States of America might be liberated and restored as a free and independent people and nation. We believe this can be achieved through lawful, peaceful and honorable means! It is not our purpose to become an enemy but an independent ally and friend, rather then the subjugated and occupied colony of a world class super power.
We believe that in order to achieve these ends it is necessary to gain the complete and undivided attention of the mass media, the federal bureaucracy and the public at large. Therefore we have created the Confederate Legion as a "Confederate Ceremonial Honor Guard" through which we are striving to restore those long columns of men in gray. We are organized under the umbrella of the Confederate Legion which consists of three subsidiaries; Confederate adults who are Civilians or Military Veterans, the Confederate Legion Youth Corps and finally our Southern Belles.
We are even now looking toward to the day when we will be able to parade our numbers in a pass and review parade, unlike anything heretofore witnessed. It cannot be over emphasized; we are not an armed force nor a militia but a Confederate Ceremonial Honor Guard, working not only for the restoration of our own "Unalienable Rights" to self governance, but that all peoples might enjoy these same rights. Therefore we like to use the cliché that "We are the people for the people!" We therefore propose that an alliance and a coalition be forged between the various State Secessionists and the Confederate Legion.
It is not likely that we shall agree upon every issue, but we can and must stand together so we might once more be able to exercise those "Unalienable Rights" which have been endowed by Almighty God in creation. Further it is urgent that we work together toward gaining sufficient popular support toward that day when our combined numbers will be far too awesome to ignore; the pendulum will then shift in our favor. When this begins to take place politicians in general being more interested in gaining our vote then holding principle, will then support our cause.
Who then are we, the Confederate Legion? We are the heirs and joint heirs of the Confederate States of America; the progenitors of its history, heritage, culture and nationhood. We are not "Neo" or "New" Confederates rather we are true and direct descendants of the Confederacy as founded by our forefathers. Due to the occupation of our homeland we hold duel citizenship; that of the Confederate States as well as the United States. Our love of the former does not make of us enemies of the latter; rather we are advocates according to truest meaning of the term 'freedom of choice.'
We believe in the right of all peoples to decide for themselves what manner of society, government and nation shall be theirs, that they might passed on the fruits of liberty to future generations yet unborn. Victory is achievable if we stand together, otherwise we shall face the quickening advance of a worsening despotism. The signs of our times speak for themselves and it is for us to join together and help make it happen by our solidarity and activism. There are no others who will step forward and stand in our stead and do that for which we alone have been foreordained.
Should we remain idle in our procrastination, compromise and complacency, time will run its course and our present opportunities will have slipped away. We will together loosen the shackles ourselves or by our example we will be teaching our children and their children's children to bow to the whims of their masters. The Confederate Legion while recent in its creation is none-the-less a growing entity that believes our just and honorable cause must be taken directly to "We the People" if we are to be successful in our mission and purpose.
Let it be known here and now that the success of either of our movements will mean success for the other! I might have come to you in order to speak great flowering words of oratory; however the principles upon which we stand has never been better stated then in the scholarly written Confederate Proclamation of Independence. I'd like to take the opportunity to read it for your edification!
Proclamation of Independence
"We the People of the Sovereign States and Territories constituting and entitled the Confederate States of America hereby proclaim before Almighty God and all who may read these presents that as our forefathers law-fully, peacefully and constitutionally seceded from that voluntary union of States entitled the United States of America and formed a new nation, according to their reserved political rights, and the inalienable rights endowed them by their Creator, so the aforementioned States and Territories were, are, and remain now Sovereign political entities within a voluntary national Confederation, conjointly constituting one independent nation amongst the nations of this world, and styled 'The Confederate States of America.'
We further declare that these inalienable truths are, and in no way can be, negated or compromised by the historic fact that the nation so founded was once aggressively, arrogantly and illegally invaded, overrun, occupied and subjugated by a superior external force, and thus subjected to war crimes and other crimes against humanity and brutally denied rights of life, liberty and due process of law, nor by the fact that our citizenry (when no longer able to defend their homes or persons and denied, by that brute force the basic human right to self-determination and choice of manner of government) were compelled, as States and Territories, to retract their articles of secession and rejoin, against their manifest will, their former and repudiated union.
We hereby declare that all such pretended acts, having been performed without the mandate or consent of the governed, and outside the duly ratified Confederate States Constitution, were, are, and forever shall be null and void, and so the dates of Secession of the several States and Territories (each acting in its Sovereign capacity) continue in unbroken validity from the said dates, as shall the dates of Secession of any such further States of the American union as may, at any time, choose to resume their sovereign status among the nations of the world.
And we declare before God Almighty, and call the peoples of the world to witness, our belief that, as men are created equal under Him, so are nations sovereign and equal in His sight, and as no man has the right to oppress another, so no nation may oppress another nation, enter their lands by force, or force their political will or culture upon another people, by means direct or indirect.
Upon these just and unbreakable grounds we confidently pray the Grace and Divine Providence of Almighty God, that our cause may be vindicated and our right to self-determination again openly acknowledged before Him."
God save the Confederacy
"Would that I could have said to my soldiers, resist, and hang out our banners on the outer wall! but the day of retribution has not yet come when we shall be able to satiate our spirit of revenge on those fanatics and radicals of the north. Whenever it does we shall make them drink of the poison chalice to the very dregs . . . maybe a counter revolution would be necessary . . ." --- General P.G.T. Beauregard
