There are those among our Confederate numbers, as well as in the general population, who are not acquainted with the organizational and rank structure of the military. Therefore a chart has been provided and may be logged onto, by clicking the below two titles! Often in the case of militias it is not uncommon to assign officers to commands, which hold rank far above those normally billeted for such a command.

An example is where a Company of men, normally 175, has a Colonel in Command. A Colonel should properly be billeted for a Regiment, which consists of approximately 1500 men, whereas a Captain should command a Company. Additionally, far to often officers are commissioned that are not qualified to be an officer, let alone command a military command.

At a minimum Officers should be required to study the necessary material and demonstrate, they have the knowledge as well as the leadership to command. The same principle applies to Enlisted Men, who should be billeted based upon their grade, knowledge and ability, according to military protocol.

However it should be noted that without military discipline and an adherence to orders, a true military does not exist, but rather a social gathering. While an organization such as the Confederate Legion cannot enforce an Oath of Allegiance under law, adherence must be derived through a sense of honor, duty and faith in the Almighty God, in Christ Jesus, the Holy Scripture and Prayer.
